85% Merlot, 7.5% Malbec and 7.5% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Omahu Gravels’ vineyard, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French and Hungarian oak. Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple-black hues. The nose is full and up-front with aromas of blackberries, plums and boysenberries, along with dark herbal and black minerally notes at the core. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, flavours of black and red plum fruit are enlivened by bright, lacy acidity, and are expressed with sweetness and primary freshness. The mouthfeel is slender and sleek, with the palate flowing along a fine, velvety tannin line. The structure is refined and the wine leads to a gentle finish with plum and boysenberry fruitiness. This is an elegant, fine-textured, fruity Merlot with ripe plum and blue fruit flavours. Serve with pasta, barbecued food and Mediterranean fare over the next 4+ years. 17.5-/20 Jul 2014 RRP $17.00
