Thorn-Clarke ‘Shotfire’ ‘Quartage’ Barossa Valley 2007

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 29-Jun-2012
46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Petit Verdot, 15% Merlot and 12% Malbec, the wine aged 18 months in 85% French oak, 15% American. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The nose is shy and tight, but with depth and density, showing aromas of black berry fruits with oak spices and iron-earth notes adding to the interest. Full-bodied, this is tightly concentrated, quite shy and backward in expression at present. There are ripe fruit flavours of blackcurrants, cassis and iron, with complex earth and leather elements, unfolding oak spices. This is classically proportioned with fine-grained tannins, the extraction very much in balance. Very much a Bordeaux-style wine that promises much and will develop with finesse and elegance over the next 7-9+ years. 18.0+/20  Jun 2012
