Thorn-Clarke ‘Sandpiper’ Barossa Merlot 2012

Merlot from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 25-Jul-2014
Very dark, deep, black-hued red colour with garnet hues on rim. The nose is softly concentrated and somewhat restrained in expression, with soft, clean aromas of dark plums and ripe black and red curranty notes. The fruit is infused with lifted, spicy oak, and some herbal nuances emerge in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a soft core with depth, showing up-front spicy plum flavours with a little herb and mint. A little cedary oak enriches the fruit, which is underlined by grainy tannins. The palate flows along a light, firm line, which leads to a light, spicy, cedary finish with dry textures. This is an up-front, spicy Merlot with plum flavours and a grainy tannin line. Match with barbecued and grilled red meat dishes over the next 3-4 years. Barossa fruit fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French and American oak. 16.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $19.99
