Thorn-Clarke ‘Ron Thorn’ ‘Single Vineyard’ Barossa Shiraz 2010

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 23-Dec-2014
Shiraz fruit from the ‘St Kitts’ vineyard, Barossa, harvested at night and fermented to 14.8% alc., the wine aged 20 months in 100% new American oak. Full, saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is very full and powerful with densely packed aromas of ripe black berry and black plum fruits interwoven with liquorice, opulent Asian spices, cedary oak, and complexing layers of earth and tar. This is solid and concentrated with immense depth. Full-bodied, rich and opulently ripe flavours of black berry fruits, plums and liquorice fill the mouth with sweetness. Waves of chocolate, tar, spices and cedary oak unfold. The flavours are supported by considerable tannin extraction and structure, with the alcohol adding strength, warmth and power. This is well-balanced, and the wine has a decadent accessibility that pervades, carrying the flavours to a long, textural, but sweet finish. This is a fulsome traditional fully-ripened, black-fruited Shiraz with layers of opulent flavours and matching structure. Serve with slow-cooked game meats over the next 12-15+ years. 19.5-/20 Dec 2014 RRP AU$95.00
