Thistle Ridge Waipara Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Apr-2014
Bright straw-yellow colour, paler on rim. This has a fresh, steely and elegant nose with fruit aromas in the cooler spectrum, showing gooseberries, nettles and grass, along with subtle riper lantana and waxy notes, suggesting barrel work. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of grass and nettle-like fruit are intermixed with waxy, tropical fruit elements, and expressed with restraint. The flavours flow smoothly, the mouthfeel enlivened by slippery, refreshing acidity, and the palate follows a balanced line with a fine phenolic thread in the background. The fruit leads to a light, dry and nettly finish of moderate length. This is a restrained, cooler-spectrum Sauvignon Blanc with a smooth and slippery mouthfeel. Serve with salads and vegetables, and Mediterranean fare over the next 2 years. Fruit from 3 estate blocks cool-fermented with 5% in French oak to 13.0% alc. and 2 g/L RS. 17.5-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $18.00
