Thistle Ridge ‘Block 2’ Waipara Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 19-Nov-2014
Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose is soft and dense with concentrated aromas of ripe dark plum and savoury dark red berry fruit aromas, along with complex liquorice, dried herb and earthy layers that unfold with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, lively flavours of savoury red berry fruit and dark plums are entwined with savoury dark herbs, earth and nuances of undergrowth, forming an elegantly concentrated core. The fruit and mouthfeel are enlivened by fresh acidity, and supported by fine-grained tannins that grow in presence. The flavours flow with good energy and tension and lead to a firmly concentrated, long-lingering finish with plum, liquorice and earthy notes. This is an elegantly concentrated, complex, savoury-fruited Pinot Noir with fine structure and freshness. Serve with mushroomy risotto, pasta and coq au vin over the next 4-5 yeas. Fruit from ‘Block 2’ of the Thomas family estate, indigenous yeast fermented with 12.5% whole clusters to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 25 days on skins and aged 18 months in French oak. 18.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $22.00
