Theory & Practice Syrah 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Sep-2021
Moderately full, deep ruby-red with a dark purple hue, lighter on edge. The nose is full, packed with nuances of blackberries, plums entwined with a gamey, meatiness and smoky barrels. Full-bodied, aromas of blackberries and plums are juicy, enriched by black pepper, game and a hint of smoke. Tannin extraction extends a soft grip, coating the palate, supple spices linger to a sustained finish. This is a rich Syrah with black fruit and gaminess, enriched by a fine tannin structure. Match with roast lamb and meat stew over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked, destemmed to open-top fermenters, cold-soaked 7 days, wild yeast fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in French oak barrels, 20% new oak, full MLF in barrels, left on full lees for 10 months. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Sept 2021 RRP $24
