Theory & Practice Pinot Gris 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Sep-2021
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with depth, slightly lighter on edge. The nose is gentle, nuances of pear and quince melded with lychee, suggestions of vine leaf and a subtle hint of ginger. Medium-bodied, dry-ish to taste, nuances of pear and quince intermix lychee and grapefruit zest, finish with a hint of ginger lingering. The palate is smooth-flowing with a touch of sweetness, flows with subtly fine-textured phenolics and an oily mouthfeel. This is a straightforward Pinot Gris with a tropical character and a smooth drive. Match with Asian fare over the next 2-3 years. Machines-harvested, fermented with wild and inoculated yeast in tanks to 13.5% alc, 7g/l RS, aged in tanks for 6 months before bottling. 17/20 pts (85 pts) Sept 2021 RRP $21
