The Prospect Ormond Gisborne Chardonnay 2017

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 02-Feb-2019
Bright even straw yellow colour with some depth lighter on the rim.  The nose is full and fresh with deep aromas of fragrant yellow stonefruits along with tropical fruits and nutty elements.  This has excellent density and penetration.  Dry to taste and medium-full bodied the palate is fulsome with rich and bold flavours of ripe yellowstone fruits and tropical fruit along with nutty oak harmoniously melded with creamy barrel ferment and some MLF butterscotch.  The flavours are rounded and integrated and flow smoothly along a soft textured palate, leading to a long smooth lasting finish.   This is a rich and rounded bold Chardonnay with savoury flavours with tropical stonefruits and integrated creamy nutty oak.  Match with roasted pork over the next 4 years.  90% Mendosa clone fruit from the ‘Ashwood’ estate, Ormond, and 10% ‘Spade Oak’ Viognier, 10% indigenous yeast, 100% barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new French oak, 75% undergoing MLF. 18.5+/20  Feb 2019  RRP $27.00 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
