The Pilot by Alpha Domus Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-Nov-2015
Dark, even ruby-red colour with a little garnet on the rim. The bouquet is elegant and restrained in expression, with tightly bound, slender aromas of blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit. This has depth and some concentration, unfolding nuances of black plums, tar, cedar and lead-pencils along with herbal elements. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, restrained and tight flavours of ripe blackberries and black plums are melded with soft blackcurrant notes. The mouthfeel is integrated and harmonious, with a soft tannin core and background acidity. The wine recedes as it flows to the soft finish. This is an elegantly restrained, harmonious Merlot/Cabernet blend with a soft core and line. Match with roasted red meats over the next 4 years. A blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Alpha Domus’ estate, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 80% seasoned French oak barrels. 16.5-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $22.00
