The Pilot by Alpha Domus Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Mar-2014
Very dark, deep, ruby-red colour with a good heart. The nose is light with fresh aromas of redcurrant and soft earthy plum fruit with blackcurrant leaf elements in the cooler, herbal spectrum. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, soft redcurrant and plum flavours are harmoniously interwoven with cool-spectrum, herbal notes. The mouthfeel is gentle and supple, and flows smoothly along a fine-textured line, the acid in the background providing good freshness. The flavours are carried to a mellow, lingering finish with herb and currant notes. This is a soft, mellow and harmonious Merlot-based wine in the cooler herbal spectrum. Match with pizza and barbecued red meats over the next 4 years. 69% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Malbec from the Alpha Domus vineyard and one other Bridge Pa site, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in seasoned oak, 80% French. 16.5+/20 Mar 2014 RRP $21.90
