The Ned Southern Valleys Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 14-Jun-2015
Moderately dark, even ruby-red colour with light purple hues on edge. The nose is elegantly proportioned with tightly bound aromas of dark raspberry and red liquorice fruit aromas entwined with subtly expressed dark herbs and minerally-reductive detail. The nose grows in depth and firmness with aeration. Medium-full bodied, deep and tightly concentrated flavours of dark raspberries, liquorice and herbs form a strong heart and core to the palate. Fine, flowery tannins support the fruit, growing in prominence, lending a grainy textured mouthfeel and proper structure. There is good underlying power and drive, with discreet acid adding to the fruit sweetness, and the wine flows to a soft, dry, textured finish. This is a concentrated and rich, dark raspberry-fruited Pinot Noir with powdery tannins and good grip. Match with pork, lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Southern Valleys fruit destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in tank and French oak barrels. 17.5/20 Jun 2015 RRP $26.00
