The Natural Wine Co. ‘Organic’ Gisborne Gewurztraminer 2014

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 16-May-2015
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of blush, pale on rim. The nose is soft, light and gentle as it builds in depth, showing root ginger melded with exotic florals, tropical fruits, musk and Turkish Delight. Dryish to taste, light-medium bodied and elegantly proportioned, finely expressed fruit flavours of yellow stonefruits, tropical fruit and exotic florals are entwined with root ginger. Honey and Turkish Delight elements unfold to add detail. This has good weight and presence, and a degree of unctuousness is present. Grainy phenolics emerge and grow in texture as the wine flows, carrying to a firm, linear finish with classical varietal bitter elements. This is an elegant, dryish Gewurztraminer with ginger and honied flavours and some phenolic grip on the finish. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the company’s ‘Ormond Valley Road’ vineyard, vines over 30 y.o., fermented in stainless steel to 12.5% alc. and 7 g/L RS, the wine given extended skin contact. Certified AsureQuality organic. 17.0/20 May 2015 RRP $19.99
