The King’s Thorn Waihopi Marlborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Mar-2015
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with a hint of blush, lighter on rim. The nose is full with good volume and depth of ripe yellow stonefruits entwined with pears, honeysuckle and attractive yellow floral perfumes. Some nutty and flinty elements emerge with aeration. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, this has good depth and presence on palate with flavours of aromatic yellow stonefruits and florals, with subtle pear and honeysuckle elements. Some exotic tropical fruit nuances unfold adding to the interest. The mouthfeel is soft and the wine flows smoothly, with good acid energy and freshness, carrying through to a moderately sustained finish with pear and honey flavours. This is a well-proportioned off-dry Pinot Gris with aromatic fruit flavours and a smooth-flowing palate. Match with Asian cuisine over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the Waihopi River vineyard, stainless-steel fermented with 10% in 500 L French oak puncheons to 14.0% alc. and 6.5 g/L RS. 17.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $22.95
