The King’s Bastard Wairau Marlborough Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Mar-2015
Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, paler on rim. This has a fresh and tightly bound nose with firm and penetrating aromas of citrus and yellow stonefruits intermingling with lemon-curd MLF notes. The aromatics are fruit-focussed with the oaking very subtle. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is elegantly presented with fine core of citrus fruit melded with yellow stonefruits. The fruit is enhanced by subtle spicy and nutty oak detail, and a gentle layering of lemon-curd MLF. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively, and has good presence and vinosity, with fine textures guiding the palate. This is well-balanced and accessible, the wine leading to a long finish with MLF nuances featuring. This is a fresh, lively, fruit-focussed and balanced Chardonnay with subtle oaking and lemon-curd MLF notes showing. Match with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. A portion of the fruit hand-picked and WBP, the wine fully fermented in 500 L French oak puncheons to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months on lees with 50% MLF. 17.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $22.95
