Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with a little garnet. This has a full, broad, solid and complex bouquet with complex layers of savoury, dark red berry fruit along with dried herbs, earth and game. A full-bodied and mouthfilling wine, the fruit is fleshy and juicy, with waves of savoury red fruits, dried herbs, secondary bramble and undergrowth and earth. The wine is integrated, the tannins beginning to resolve. Some acidity remains, lending tension and a little bite and zestiness on the finish. This has become mature, and the full, savoury complex flavours are harmoniously melded into the textures. Drink over the next 4 years. 18.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $N/A Clones 5, 115 and Abel with some 114 and 667, from the ‘Hanson' vineyard in Te Muna, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French oak. Moderately deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, this has a full, robust nose with densely packed dark red berry fruits along with nuances of savoury dark herbs, a little shy in expression at present. Full-bodied, this has mouthfilling flavours of ripe dark red berry fruits and herb and savoury earth elements on a well-structured, grainy textured palate. The fruit sweetness and fresh acidity contribute to a fullness and liveliness. This should develop well and come together over the next 5-6 years.
