The Elder Pinot Gris 2022, Martinborough

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 17-Oct-2022
Slightly hazy (unfiltered), pale coral. This has an enticing, gentle, complex bouquet, aromas of pear and citrus melded with dill, sage, spice, floral and savoury elements. Medium-full bodied, aromas of pear intertwined with dried citrus peel, sage, dill, blossom and baking spices. The palate is savoury and textural with finely extracted phenolics reminiscent of citrus peel and quince skin. A fine acid line carries to a long, spicy finish. This is a well-made on-skins Pinot Gris, it shows depth and complex aromas on a fine line and textural palate. Match with pulled pork and venison carpaccio over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked, natural yeast fermented in open-top French oak barriques, 11 days on skins, aged on lees for a further 4 months in old cigar barrel, no MLF, no additions at bottling, unfined, unfiltered. 12.5% alc. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Oct 2022 RRP $45
