Bright, pale yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is soft and poised, with neutral fruit aromas of apple, pear, melded with lemon, subtle peach and floral scent. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, nuances of pear, apple and lemon have good intensity, unfolding honeysuckle, beeswax and gingery spices. The mouthfeel is unctuous, flows with a fine-textured phenolic, mineral thread, along with refreshing acidity to linearity. This is a dry, textural Pinot Gris with delicate features and good concentration. Match with fennel & lemon risotto and Chinese steam fish with chive & ginger over the next 4 years. The fruit was sourced from an elevated river terrace at the Southern end of Te Muna Valley, grown following organic principles. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, racked, then fermented with selected yeast in tanks, transferred to older French oak barrels halfway during fermentation to finish at 14% alc, 1.9g/l RS, further aged on lees for 6 months. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) July 2021 RRP $42
