The Elder Pinot Gris 2019, Martinborough

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 10-Nov-2020
Bright, light straw-yellow with some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is inviting, elegantly-full aromas of golden peaches, melded with pear, jasmine and five-spice. Dry to taste, medium-full bodied, fragrances ripe pears, golden peaches have a concentrated core, enlivened by five-spice and jasmine floral scent. A subtle bitter note of pomelo and its pith added a layer of complexity. The concentration of fruit contributes to weight along with underlined alcohol power. Supporting lively acidity provides a smooth flow along with an unctuous mouthfeel, carry five-spice through the palate. This is a dry and textural Pinot Gris displaying flavours of ripe pear, golden peaches alongside jasmine and lifting five-spice. Match with aromatic spicy Vietnamese fare and pork chop over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, fermented to 14% alc, >1 g/l RS. Aged for 7 months half in older barrels and a half in tanks. 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) Nov 2020 RRP $42
