The Elder Pinot Gris 2018, Martinborough

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 25-Jun-2020
Bright, light yellow with some depth, transparent on the rim. The nose is exuberant with aromas of ripe stonefruit, pear and apple, melded with ginger and honeysuckle, underlying a subtle lime flowers and labneh. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, there is a good core of flavours of apple and pear, along with citrus fruit, lime flowers, entwined with honey and five-spice. The purity of fruit, supported by lively acidity, flows with good energy along with crunchy stony mineral; leads to a refreshing, elegant linear finish. The mouthfeel has a fine layer of phenolic grip, contributed to the body; interweaved with supple, creamy lees detail. This is a detailed, dry Pinot Gris with exuberant fruit, balanced by lively acidity with mineral and creamy lees detail. Match with fried halloumi and chicken satay over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from Te Muna Valley, whole bunch pressed to tanks, fermented to 13.9% alc, 2.9 g/l RS. a port was aged in older French oak barrels on lees for 8 months. 18.5/20 pts June 2020 RRP $42
