The Cabbage Tree Vineyard Martinborough Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 12-Oct-2013
Full, very dark, deep ruby-red colour with a touch of garnet on rim. The bouquet of ripe, dark red berry fruits is lifted with some volatility, and unfolds savoury dried herbs, complex spices and cedary oak in waves. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of savoury dark red berry fruits form a restrained, but complex amalgam with spicy plums, cedary oak and lifted elements showing. This has weight and density with firm, fine-grained tannins in support and some alcohol power providing drive and line. The acidity is discreet, lending a roundness to the mouthfeel and the flavours are carried to a sustained, dry finish. This is a fulsome and weighty Pinot Noir with lifted savoury, spicy, flavours, and underlying power. Hand-picked fruit fermented to 14.1% alc., the wine aged 22 months in 80% new French oak barrels. Serve with Middle Eastern red meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 16.0+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $38.00
