The 3rd Man ‘Lough Vineyard’ Waipara Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 01-May-2013
Bright straw-yellow colour, pale on edge. The bouquet is well-concentrated with an amalgam of citrus fruits, minerals, honey and complex, funky flinty elements. Medium in sweetness, rich flavours of ripe limes, honeysuckle, minerals and toast are infused with flint. This has a dense and full core, the sweetness and breadth of flavours mouthfilling. This has freshness from racy, underlying acidity which provides linearity, and the palate leads to a very long and sustained, gently textured finish with citrus and honied notes. This medium Riesling with its breadth and funky richness is reminiscent of southern German wines. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from vines from the ‘Lough’ vineyard, just north of Waipara, planted in 1996, indigenous yeast fermented to 10.5% alc. and 35 g/L rs. 17.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $29.90
