The 3rd Man ‘Lough Vineyard’ Waipara Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 01-May-2013
Clone 115 and 5 fruit from the ‘Lough’ vineyard indigenous yeast fermented with 5% whole bunch to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in seasoned French oak. Full, soft, dark ruby-red colour. This has an elegant and softly intense nose of dark red berry fruits with detailed nuances of dark herbs along with hints of spicy oak. Medium-full bodied, this has gently packed flavours of dark red berry fruits and bitter cherries for a concentrated core with good depth. Flavours of spices, dark herbs and mineral notes unfold. There is good underlying acidity for finesse and tension. The fruit is supported by grainy tannins that build in prominence and provide a dry, textured mouthfeel that carries through to the finish with bitter cherry, liquorice and spice notes. This is a concentrated, dark fruited and dry-textured Pinot Noir that will be a match with duck confit and coq au vin over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $36.00
