The 3rd Man ‘Darnley Corner’ Waipara Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 01-May-2013
Fruit from the ‘Darnley Corner’ vineyard on the corner of Georges and Darnleys Roads, indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak to 13.5% alc., the wine aged on lees 9 months. Brilliant straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has a softly fresh, even nose with aromas of nectarines, spicy oak, smoke and subtle passionfruit and gooseberry nuances harmoniously entwined. Dry and full-bodied, the palate has good weight and presence, with densely packed, and restrained flavours of nectarines, stonefruits, passionfruit and spicy oak that unfold in gentle layers. The mouthfeel is lively and refreshing with its softness from gentle acidity. A fine, textural thread and a little alcohol drive carries the flavours to a soft, dry, gently flavoured finish with good length. This is a harmoniously layered and balanced, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with good weight. Match with firm fleshed seafood and poultry dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 375 cases made. 18.0-/20 May 2013 RRP $26.90
