Testify by Daniel Brennan Chardonnay 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Jan-2021
Bright, light straw-yellow, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is gently full, elegantly presented, nuances of almond nougat, barrel flint interweave lemon sherbet, stonefruit and white spice, underlying a hint of yoghurt. Medium-bodied, the palate is focused and poised, aromas of lemon sherbet, pink grapefruit intermix with white peach, followed by prickly spices, almond nougat and soft meringue. The mouthfeel is lightly creamed along an ethereal fine-textured phenolic/ mineral line with good energy. The oak is well in proportion, appeared in spices and fine-textured, along with subtle nutty elements. Brilliant acidity brings tension and focus, drives a lingering, salivating finish. This is an elegant citrus-toned Chardonnay with complexing details on a fine-textured mineral line. Match with whitefish with beurre blanc and prawns over the next 6+ years. Clone 15 Chardonnay from Te Awanga, handpicked, whole bunch pressed to tanks, settled overnight, fermented in a mix of new and old barriques and puncheons with moderately full solids, 13% alc. Full MLF, regular lees stirred, aged for 11 months approx. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Jan 2021 RRP $44
