TerraVin Marlborough Late Harvest Pinot Gris 2011

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-Sep-2012
Clones 7A, 40A and Lincoln Berrysmith fruit from the ‘Eaton Family' vineyard fermented in stainless-steel to 12.0% alc. and 77 g/L, the wine give a short period of batonnage. Bright, light, peachy pink colour with eye of the partridge hues and some depth. The bouquet is fresh with intense aromas of honey, redcurrants, boiled sweets and stonefruits with a minerally edge. Sweet on palate, luscious honied flavours intermingle with yellow stonefruits, roses and confectionary. This is soft and plush in texture with a rounded mouthfeel, with good acid poise and energy in balance. The finish is carried by the residual sugar, but has a sumptuousness along with a fine phenolic thread. A very individual late-harvest Pinot Gris with rich honied notes and subtle red fruit nuances. Match with fruit desserts over the next 3-4+ years. 17.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $26.50 Clones 7A, 40A and Lincoln Berry Smith from the ‘TerraVin' site, low-cropped, WBP and fermented to 12.0% alc. and 70 g/L rs. This has a very pale pink blush to the colour with a pale edge. Rich and voluminous on bouquet, this shows aromas of poached pears, strawberries, tropical fruits and spices in an intriguing array. Medium-sweet, this combines flavours of ripe stonefruits, spiced pears and red florals. The sweetness is a feature, providing richness and rounded textures, the sweetness carrying the exotic flavours to a soft, broad finish with good length. Moderately sweet and succulent, this will match spicy cuisine and could be served with cooked fruit desserts over the next 3-4+ years. 65 cases made. 17.5+/20 Aug 2011 RRP $N/A
