TerraVin ‘J’ Marlborough 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 04-Feb-2015
85% Merlot, 8.5% Malbec and 6.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, from the ‘Eaton Family Vineyard’, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 50% new oak. Full, dark ruby-red colour with black-red hues, a little lighter edged. This has a softly concentrated nose of ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit harmoniously interwoven with nuances of earth and aromatic oak, revealing subtle complex layers of plums, herbs and tobacco. Medium-full bodied, rich black berried and curranty fruit flavours show with varietal purity. The mouthfeel is plush, smooth-textured and harmonious, unfolding supple tannin extraction that subtly builds to provide excellent structure and support. The palate has fine acidity, lending poise and elegance, and the wine flows seamlessly to a long, gentle finish with earth and herb detail. This is a plush, ripe and finely textured Merlot blend with soft elegance and poise. Match with roasted lamb and beef, and Mediterranean fare over the next 7-9 years. 18.5/20 Feb 2015 RRP $60.00
