Terrace Edge Waipara Valley Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 13-Oct-2012
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour. The nose is full, rounded and packed with aromas of black fruits, black pepper, ink and liquorice, along with layers of dark herbs, spices and minerals. A touch of reduction is well-integrated with the aromatic amalgam. Full-bodied, this has a rounded mouthfeel with supple tannin textures supporting the softly packed and concentrated flavours of savoury black berry fruits, earthy spices and black pepper. A touch of reduction adds a minerally, charry element. An underlying acid line provides good tension and balancing freshness, and carries the flavours along a fine-grained, but firm, dry finish. This is a full and softly textured, but concentrated Syrah with black fruit, pepper and earthy flavours. Match with slow-cooked game meat over the next 5-6+ years. Fruit from two blocks, one on the terrace overlooking the Waipara river and the other, the 0.6 ha north-facing ‘Bank Block' with a 45° incline. Fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 14-28 days on skins, and aged 11 months in 25% new French barriques. 18.0-/20 Oct 2012 RRP $27.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade', the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews' operates
