Terrace Edge Waipara Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 23-May-2013
Full, bright straw-yellow colour with slight golden hues, showing some depth. The bouquet is very full and solid with densely packed aromas of yellow stonefruits interwoven with apricot kernels and flinty minerals from lees work. Layers of floral interest and detail are revealed in the glass. Off-dry to taste, rich, upfront and near opulent flavours of stonefruits, honey, spices and minerals fill the mouth with roundness and breadth. This is lush and generous, with subtle nutty oak elements adding to the layers of flavours. The palate blossoms with some alcohol drive, balanced by good acidity for tension, and the flavours flow to a long and sustained finish. This is a rich and generous off-dry Pinot Gris with layers of flavour. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 3-4+ years. Fruit hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast fermented, approx. two-thirds in seasoned oak to 14.5% alc. and 14 g/L rs, the wine undergoing batonnage. 19.0-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $23.95
