Terrace Edge Syrah 2019, Waipara

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 12-Jan-2021
Deep, ruby-black with some depth and transparency, lighter ruby-purple on edge. The nose is fragrantly full, nuances of dark herbs, floral and smoke entwined with blackberries, roasted meat and peppercorns. Full-bodied, blackberries and plums have a concentrated core, along with violet, thyme, black peppercorns; savoury nuances coated the palate, unfolding smoke meat and broody dark fruit. The mouthfeel is dense, woven by fine-grained, powdery tannin; savouriness broadens the palate and lengthens the finish, interweave lacy acidity brings a sustained, long finish. This is a rich palate Syrah with blackberries in the lead of a complexing, savoury profile and powdery tannin mouthfeel. Match with roasted lamb and slow-cooked boar over the next 5+ years. Syrah 96.5% and 3.5% Viognier co-fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in French oak barriques for 16 months, 25% new. BioGro organic certified. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Jan 2021 RRP $36
