Tenute Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2006

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 03-Oct-2012
100% Sangiovese from Montalcino fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 20 days on skins and aged 12 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques, followed by a further 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrel. Dark, deep, garnet-red colour with some bricking on edge. The bouquet features complex fragrances of red cherry fruit with dried wood, earth and leather along with sandalwood notes, the aromas building with intensity and concentration. Medium-full bodied, this is an elegantly proportioned wine with tightly bound flavours of dried cherry fruit, leather and dried herbs, unfolding layers of cedar and sandalwood. The extraction is serious, with plenty of fine-textured tannins that form a firm line. Good acidity is present, providing the palate with tension and energy, The finish is tight, dry and crisp. This is an elegant and slender Brunello with dried secondary fruit characters and exotic cedary notes and piquant acidity. Match with roasted beef and lamb or serve with hard cheeses over the next 5-7+ years. 12,500 dozen made. 18.0-/20 Oct 2012 RRP $102.00
