Telmo Rodriguez ‘LZ’ Rioja 2013

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 16-Sep-2014
Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with black-purple hues. The nose is firm and intensely concentrated with aromas of black cherries and dark raspberry berry fruit, along with pepper and nutty nuances and a fine layer of Middle Eastern spices. Medium-full bodied, tightly held, restrained flavours of cherry and berry fruit intermingle with nutty and spicy elements. The fruit is underlined by grainy, dry tannins providing a firm structure and mouthfeel. Background acidity provides good drive, and the tannins carry the palate to a dry, textural finish with red fruit notes. This is an elegantly proportioned, tightly structured Rioja with cherry and raspberry fruit. Serve with slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Bush vine Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha from Lanziego de Alava, Rioja Alavesa, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4-6 months in cement vats. 17.0+/20 Sep 2014 RRP $24.99
