Telmo Rodriguez ‘Corriente’ Rioja 2012

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 05-Oct-2015
100% bush vine Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano fruit from Lanciego, Rioja Alavesa, hand-picked and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in barrels and foudres. Full, dark ruby-red colour with black-garnet hues. This has an elegant and refined nose with harmoniously integrated aromas of dark red and black berry fruit and savoury plums, liquorice, cedar and vanilla oak. Layers of earth and dried herbs unfold, and the bouquet reveals some game-like elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a moderately rich and concentrated core of savoury dark red berry and plum fruit flavours melded with cedar, earth, game and sweet oak. The fruit is supported by grainy tannin extraction and integrated acidity lending a textural, but balanced mouthfeel. This has a positive core and line that leads to a long, lingering finish of plums, earth, cedar and vanilla. This is a softly concentrated Rioja with layers of plum, cedar and oak vanilla, framed by grainy tannins. Match with casseroles and roasted red meats, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5+ years. 17.5-/20 Oct 2015 RRP $28.99
