Telmo Rodriguez ‘Al Muvedre’ Alicante Tinto Joven 2012

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 12-May-2014
Full, deep, black-red colour with some purples hues on rim. The bouquet is initially restrained, but opens to become voluminous with aromas of ripe black fruits and boysenberry jam, revealing layers of tar and minerals, game and herbs. Medium-full bodied, soft and fleshy fruit flavours of sweetly ripe blackberries, boysenberries and plum jam are supported by fine-grained tannin extraction. Herb and savoury hints unfold to add interest. This has good presence and mouthfeel and the palate is well-balanced. A little alcoholic power is noticeable, and contributes to the drive, leading to a ripe and juicy fruited, textural finish. This is a full and fleshy Alicante with ripe, sweet black fruits and good structure. Serve with barbecued and grilled red meats over the next 4 years. Hand-picked Monastrell fruit from bush vines in Monovar, fermented to 13.5% alc. 17.0+/20 May 2014 RRP $19.99
