Te Whare Ra ‘Toru’ Marlborough 2013

Blended White from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 06-Jun-2014
‘Toru’ means ‘three’ in Maori, this being a field blend of hand-picked Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris from the ‘TWR Home Block’, with portions WBP and given skin contact, all co-fermented in stainless-steel tank and old large French oak to 13.2% alc. and 8.5 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Brilliant, very pale straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is ethereal, growing in volume with delicate aromas of exotic Gewurztraminer florals and spice, with fresh elderflower, lime, mineral and honeysuckle notes, building in depth with aeration. Off-dry to taste, tightly bound and softly concentrated flavours of florals, lime fruit, exotic florals and honey form a fine, firm core. The fruit has sweetness and lusciousness, and is enlivened by crisp acidity, the palate possessing good depth and weight, and a subtle, firm phenolic line that carries to a bright, brisk finish. This is a subtly exotic, off-dry blended aromatic white with soft concentration and a lively palate. Match with Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. Certified BioGro organic. 880 cases made. 18.0+/20 Jun 2014 RRP $26.00
