Te Whare Ra ‘Single Vineyard 5182’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 16-Oct-2016
Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is softly concentrated and fine in presentation with aromas of dark red cherry and berry fruit melded with red liquorice, dark herbs, nutty oak and mineral notes that form a tight core, unfolding dark-red florals in the glass. Medium-full bodied, this has a tightly concentrated core with juicy and luscious flavours of dark red cherry and berry fruit intermixed with red liquorice and notes of dark herbs and nutty oak. The fruit sweetness is supported by fine grained tannins providing a flowery-textured structure, and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The palate is succulent and lively with balancing, refined, dry textures that carry the wine to a long, elegant finish. This is a tightly bound, succulent red cherry and berry fruited Pinot Noir with fine-grained tannin structure and bright acidity. Match with duck and pork dished over the next 6-8 years. The first release of a Pinot Noir under the ‘SV 5182’ label. Clones 113, 114, 115, 667, 777, 10/5, Abel and 5, the fruit from the ‘Home’ block, hand-picked and sorted, partially indigenous yeast fermented with a small portion of whole clusters, the berries uncrushed, to 13.5% alc., the wine on skins approx. two weeks on skins and aged 12 months in 30% new French oak.
