Te Whare Ra ‘Single Vineyard 5182’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Nov-2015
Old vine Mendoza and some clone 6, from the ‘TWR Home Block’, fermented in demi-muids with a portion by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 50% new large format oak on lees with full MLF. Brilliant light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, a little lighter on the edge. The bouquet is full, broad and openly accessible with unfolding layers of ripe citrus fruits, flinty, mealy and nutty complexities, seamlessly interwoven with creamy barrel-ferment, oxidative detail oak toast and lemon-curd MLF. Medium-full bodied, the palate features sweetly ripe, lush yellow stonefruit flavours melded smoothly with mealy and nutty notes, complexed by oxidative nuances, creamy, toasty barrel-ferment richness, lemon-curd MLF and flinty lees. The mouthfeel is soft-textured and round, and the soft acidity enhancing the dense core. This has mouthfilling flavours and presence, the complexing flinty flavours growing with depth. The wine carries to a soft, flavoursome, integrated finish of nuts, toast and MLF. This is a rich, soft, gently luscious Chardonnay with a complex, harmoniously layered palate. Match with poultry, pork and veal over the next 4-5 years. Certified BioGro organic. 308 cases made. 19.0-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $35.00
