Clones 113, 114, 115, 667, 777, 10/5, Abel and 5, from the ‘TWR Home Block’, hand-picked, destemmed, but not crushed, given a cold soak and fermented with 10% whole cluster, a small portion by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine spending up to 16 days on skins from ferment. The wine was aged 12 months in 35% new French oak. Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on edge and youthful in appearance. This has a firm and finely concentrated nose with deep, primary aromas of dark raspberries and dark red cherry fruit intermixed with hints of plums, subtle spices, the bouquet revealing violet and red floral notes with aeration. Medium-full bodied, sweet, plush and juicy flavours of dark red berry fruits form an elegantly concentrated core. Subtle spice, and delicate savoury herbal nuances unfold, providing complexing interest. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained, supple tannins and the mouthfeel is enlivened by piquant acidity which enhances the fruit sweetness and richness. The palate is very harmonious, velvety in texture and smooth-flowing, carrying the flavours of raspberries and spice to a very long fine-featured and dry finish. This is a soft, plush and beautifully balanced Pinot Noir with fine, sweet fruit and fresh mouthfeel. Serve with poultry, pork and hare over the next 5-6+ years.
