Te Mata ‘Estate Vineyards’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-Nov-2014
Very dark, deep, purple-red colour. This has a deep and well-concentrated bouquet of well-ripened black fruits. A little boysenberry and jammy edge, and earthy detail to the dark red berry fruits. On palate more aromatic expression, the fruit in the dark red spectrum, beautifully rich, lush and sweet in ripeness with dark red florals. Not heavy in any way, with supple and ripe tannin textures throughout the palate. This is a star already, but will develop more over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the Woodthorpe Terraces and Bridge Pa Triangle, Syrah with a small portion of Viognier co-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in new and seasoned French oak. 18.0+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $20.00 Fruit from the Woodthorpe Terraces and Bridge Pa Triangle districts, co-fermented with a small amount of Viognier to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in new and seasoned French oak. Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red with a black heart. The nose is full and voluminous with aromas of black plums, cracked black pepper, violet floral perfumes and spices, the fruit pure and intense. Medium-bodied, the fruit expression is tight and restrained, with a gentle density. Black and dark red berry fruits, spices, black pepper and floral elements are underlined by dry, fine-grained tannins, with the acidity quite integral. The flavours build to fill the mouth, yet carried by good structure to a lingering finish. This will become richer over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $19.90
