Te Mata ‘Estate Vineyards’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernets 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Mar-2015
50% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc, the wine from the Bridge Pa Triangle, Havelock Hills and Woodthorpe Terraces, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels. Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour. This has a fresh, up-front and bold nose of vibrant and aromatic redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit. Floral elements are entwined with fresh mint and leaf, the fruit building in depth with aeration. Medium-bodied, elegantly concentrated flavours of redcurrants and dark red berry fruit intermingle with blackcurrant, herbs and leafy elements. The fruit is lifted and aromatic, and sweetly juicy. Fine-grained, supple tannins support the fruit, growing in presence, and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh, brisk acidity, carrying the wine to a sustained, textural finish. This is very attractively fruited, and will keep 5-6+ years. 18.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $18.00
