Te Mata ‘Estate Vineyards’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernets 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-Nov-2014
Very dark, deep, ruby-red colour. This has a beautiful bouquet of great freshness, ripeness and clarity, with blackcurrant and plum fruit aromas, along with an excellent thread of aromatic herbs and floral. All is in proportion and in place, the oaking unobtrusive and the wine very focussed. Classically claret-structured with a sweet core of ripe blackberry and plum fruit, and fresh currant notes, there is richness, and a suggestion of spicy oak here with fine, firm and tight tannin structure, and great length. This punches above its weight. 5-6+ years easily. 58% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc, from Bridge Pa Triangle, Havelock Hills and Woodthorpe Terraces, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in new and seasoned French oak. 18.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $20.00
