Te Mata ‘Elston’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Jul-2014
Straw-yellow colour with golden hues at heart. The bouquet is softly full and broad with an array of yellow stonefruit and citrus aromas, along with savoury nutty oak. This is quite open and accessible, and is forward. Medium-bodied, moderate fruit extract and a soft, open accessibility has provided an elegant presentation. There is a fine core of nutty stonefruit that lends line and drive. Sweet citrussy elements are countered by some drying phenolics. The palate recedes to a gentle finish. This is a more forward wine. Drink over the next 3-4+ years. 18.0+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $N/A Bright, even straw colour with green hues. The nose is tightly concentrated and elegant in proportion with aromas of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits along with a hint of butterscotch MLF and nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, this is direct in flavour with yellow stonefruit and mealy, nutty flavours along with some butterscotch creaminess from the barrel-ferment and MLF. There is good power and depth, with moderate richness and detail, initially, but the palate core unfolds to show stonefruits, nuts, toasty oak interest. The linearity is a feature, carrying the flavours with bright acidity to an elegant, long finish. A medium-bodied and elegant ‘Elston’ that will develop richness over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and fully barrel-fermented in new and seasoned French oak to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees, undergoing MLF. 18.5/20 Mar 2014 RRP $33.20
