Te Mata ‘Coleraine’ Hawke’s Bay 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Aug-2017
Very dark, deep, ruby-red colour, with slight hint of garnet. The nose is very fresh and very finely presented, with piquant, bright and aromatic blackcurrant fruit with cassis liqueur fresh and dark herbs. This is so youthful and primary, the vibrancy fresher than the 2015. Beautiful floral lift and great depth and penetration. The palate is pure brilliance, with vibrancy and vitality, showing a fresh heart of blackcurrants, sweet black and red plums and curranty fragrance. The acidity is refined and active, lending poise, enhancing the sinewy tannin extraction. The mouthfeel is very refined, and the wine carries with lusciousness and energy to an extremely long finish. This must be perfection. It will live a further 20 years easily. 56% CS, 30%Me, 14% CF. 13.5% alc. 20.0/20 Aug 2017 Release Price $95.00 Very dark, black-red colour with youthful purple hues on the rim. This has a beautifully penetrating and intensely fragrant nose of vibrantly bright and refreshingly lively black and dark red berried fruits entwined with blackcurrants, herbs, dark red florals and cassis liqueur. The aromatics unfold layers of freshness, perfumes, herb and curranty elements with subtle nuances of oak. A wine of immense richness, this has waves of sumptuous dark red and black berried and plum fruits, with piquant currant and herb-leaf elements. Simultaneously bold and ripe, but with stylish finesse and elegance to the fruit expression, the palate possesses great extract and structure, the tannins extremely fine-grained, but growing in presence as the wine unfolds in the glass. Complexing and lifted oak smoke and toast show on the long finish. The sumptuous fruit and powerful structure will come together over the next decade and a half. 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in approx. 70% new French oak. 19.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $N/A Deep black-red colour with lighter purple hues on rim, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant in presentation with tightly bound, concentrated aromas of ripe blackcurrant and cassis fruit entwined with black and red plum fruit and waves of redcurrant detail. Lifted dark red and black floral perfumes unfold revealing layers of intricate detail with real precision. The fruit is enriched by pencil shavings and toasty oak elements. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, the palate features a densely packed and intensely concentrated sweet core of ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Complexing dark plum, herb, tobacco leaf and fragrant redcurrant flavours emerge in the glass. The palate possesses mouth-coating, flowery tannins, the extraction very refined and pervading, encasing the fruit. The structure grows in prominence, balanced by fresh lacy acid vitality, and carries the wine to a concentrated, vibrant, textural, lingering finish.
