Te Mata ‘Cape Crest’ Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Mar-2015
85% Sauvignon Blanc, 9% Semillon and 6% Sauvignon Gris, given skin contact and fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in new and seasoned French, undergoing batonnage. Bright, light, golden-straw colour with some depth. The nose is softly packed with layers of ripe green stonefruits, nectarines, greengages and pineapple, along with tropical fruits, melded with nutty and creamy barrel-ferment notes. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, rich and packed ripe stonefruit flavours are entwined with nectarines and peaches, unfolding herbs, spices and nuts. The mouthfeel is luscious and creamy in texture, but balanced by a fine line of phenolics and underlying lacy acid cut. The richness and waves of flavour are carried to a very long, lingering finish. This is a beautifully complex, layered barrel-influenced Sauvignon Blanc. 4-5 years. 19.5-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $29.00 Pale straw-yellow with a hint of gold. This has a complex and rich nose of ripe green stonefruits, nectarines, herbs and spicy, nutty barrel-fermentation layers, and nuances of toast, presented with depth and completeness. Medium-full bodied, rich and concentrated sweet stonefruit flavours form a complex amalgam with dark herbs, tropical fruits and nutty oak. The fruit is vibrant and succulent, but balanced by fine acid cut and a fine, underlying textural thread of fruit extract. The mouthfeel is poised with a smooth barrel-ferment creaminess to the core and line. The wine has great length. 5+ years easily. 85% Sauvignon, 9% Semillon and 6% Sauvignon Gris, hand-picked, given some skin contact and barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in new and seasoned oak, the wine undergoing batonnage. 19.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $30.00 Bright, very pale straw-yellow colour. The nose is very fine and tightly concentrated, quite elegantly proportioned, with ripe aromas of green stonefruits, herbs, nectarines and minerally notes, with finely integrated and subtle oak spicing. Ripe white stonefruit flavours show on palate with delicate richness and succulence, balanced by very fine acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth and flows with a luscious creaminess, the palate line one of finesse, ripeness and length. This will age well and become more layered in interest over the next 5+ years. 86% Sauvignon Blanc, 9% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris. 19.0/20 Jul 2014 RRP $29.90
