Te Mata ‘Bullnose’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Mar-2017
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, slightly lighter on the rim. This is rich and ripe on the nose with intensely concentrated aromas of dark raspberries, blackberries and nuances of plums, along with an amalgam of violetty and red florals, black pepper and Oriental spices. Complexing savoury nuances of game emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich with densely packed flavours of ripe dark raspberry and blackberry fruit with pepper and spice detail. Aromatic florals and suggestions of game add to the interest. The mouthfeel is harmoniously integrated with soft, ripe tannin extraction lending plenty of body and structure, the acidity beautifully melded into the textures. The wine carries to a sweet and succulent finish with very fine balancing grip. This is an opulent Syrah, for the next 6-7+ years. 100% Syrah from the ‘Bullnose’ and ‘Isosceles’ vineyards fully destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 40% new French oak barriques. 19.0/20 Mar 2017 RRP $54.95 Brand spanking new – just released! Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, very youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant but intense and deeply concentrated with an array of perfumes. Dark-red berry fruits, with spicy layers and violet florals, then black earth and mineral detail at the core. Tightly structured and contained, but the sweet and rich black and red berry fruits come through with finesse and intensity. The structure is refined, the tannin extraction quite powdery, then the oak spices emerge and carry to the finish with dark florals. This is a concentrated, youthful, but text-book Bridge Pa Triangle expression at the top level. This has the track record as one of the country’s most consistent Syrahs. 19.0+/20 Oct 2016 RRP $54.00
