Te Mata ‘Awatea’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernets/Merlot 2008

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Mar-2012
44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot, 13.5% alc. Very full, impenetrable, purple-hued black-red, very youthful in appearance. The bouquet is intense with fresh, lively blackberry and blackcurrant fruit aromas with notes of fresh herbs. Rich, lush and densely flavoured, the flavours open out in mid-palate, the fleshiness well-countered by good tannin grip. This has balance and a good proportion of components. The fruit is ripe, rich and the rounded mouthfeel has an underlying firmness to drive the palate. A little secondary tobacco and earth just appearing. Drink over the next 8-10+ years. 18.5+/20 Mar 2012
