Even ruby-red colour with garnet hues, a little paler on edge. This has a firmly concentrated, well-proportioned nose with aromas of dark-red berry fruit entwined with dark herbs, savoury whole bunch stalk elements and nutty, slightly resinous oak. Savoury raspberry liqueur and secondary dried herbal detail emerges with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate features bold flavours of dark-red berry fruits melded with savoury dark herbs, whole bunch stalk notes and spicy, nutty oak. The mouthfeel is vigorous with plenty of underlying alcoholic drive and lacy acidity providing freshness and energy. This has a concentrated core with fine-grained tannins that carry through to a firm finish of savoury red fruits, spices and dark herbs. This is a powerful and vigorous Pinot Noir with dark red berry fruit and complexing savoury dark herb and stalk elements on a fresh, fine-grained palate. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 5+ years. Clones 115, 667, 5 and 777, hand-picked from the ‘Marsland’ vineyard on Moutere clay hills, vines 16 y.o., indigenous yeast fermented wit 15% whole bunches to 14.8% alc., the wine on skins 20 days and aged 11 months in 20% new oak.
