Te Mania ‘Reserve’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2008

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 18-Mar-2011
Made from clones 115, 777 and 5, the fruit destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts to 14.5% alc. The wine was aged 10 months in 40% new French oak barriques. Ruby-red colour with some garnet hues, this has a firm and intense bouquet of red berries and plums, with nuances of dried herbs and forest notes, spiced with oak cedar. On palate a medium weighted wine, this has good depth and concentration to the ripe strawberry fruit and dried herb flavours, the spicy, cedar-like oak is also noticeable. The extraction is well-handled and the tannins soft and supple, and freshness in the wine from the good acidity should see this further integrate over the next 3-5+ years. Match with roasted duck. 17.0-/20
