Fruit from 20 y.o. vines from three sites on the Waimea Plains, all Certified BioGro Otganic, two managed biodynamically. Cool-fermented partially with wild yeasts to 13.0% alc. and 3.5 g/L rs, given lees contact for 5 months. Very pale straw-yellow with green hues and a pale rim, this has an elegant and tightly bound, pure nose of ripe gooseberry fruit with notes of tropical fruits and limes and nuances of fresh herbs. Dry and very fine-featured, the palate is concentrated with intense flavours of gooseberries, green apples and nettle-like fruit, supported by lively, racy acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth and refined, contributing to the pure line, leading to a sustained finish. This is a classical Sauvignon Blanc with purity and racy cut, and will match seafood, vegetables and creamy sauced poultry and pasta dishes over the next 2+ years. 18.5-/20 Dec 2011 RRP $18.99
