Te Mania Nelson Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 28-Jun-2016
Bright straw-yellow colour with a little blush, paler on the rim. The nose is softly full with aromas of yellow stonefruits in a harmonious amalgam of pears and nuts, honeysuckle and delicate floral elements, unfolding some mineral notes. Dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is up-front with flavours of yellow stonefruits, savoury honeysuckle, nuts and floral nuances. Some mineral suggestions add detail. There is good weight and presence and the wine is carried by some alcoholic power along an underlying phenolic line, the integrated acidity lending roundness. The wine leads to a taut finish with good length. This is an up-front, yellow stonefruited, dryish Pinot Gris with some savoury honeysuckle, nutty and mineral notes and some power. Match with most white meat courses over the next 3 years. Fruit 70% from the ‘Greenpoint’ vineyard on Moutere clay, and 30% from the ‘Ranzau’ organic site on Waimea gravels, fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 6.5 g/L RS, aged 4 months on lees with batonnage. Vegan wine. 17.0/20 Jun 2016 RRP $21.99
